The Boko Haram insurgents had for close to a month laid siege on many
towns and villages of Adamawa State and were allegedly operating the full
version of Islamic law in the areas they captured.
Reports from Gulak indicated that the decomposed body of his father was
found three days after he died in his residence, as nobody could attend to him
after the town was deserted following the incursion of Boko Haram insurgents.
Some of the trapped residents who escaped by the whiskers said the
situation in the town was pathetic, as the insurgents had killed many
residents, while they cut up the arms of others, as many others especially the
elderly died due to dearth of medical care.
They said many among the elderly people trapped in the town have died
while trying to escape through the hills to neighbouring villages to get
medical attention.
They also reported that corpses had virtually littered the town, as pigs
and dogs had a field day feasting on them as no one could give them a befitting
burial.
Meanwhile, Adamawa State Acting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a
press statement issued by his spokesman Solomon Kumangar, commiserated with the
families of the deceased.
The governor lamented over the dead of Alhaji Ali Gilari and others who
lost their lives in similar circumstances.
