Lt Col Adeboye Obasanjo, recuperating son of former
president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was reported, on Tuesday, to have expressed
eagerness to return to the battle front.
This he disclosed when the former vice president,
Atiku Abubakar, paid a surprise visit to him at a government facility in Yola,
Adamawa State.
Lieutenant-Colonel Obasanjo was shot on Monday in
the Michika battle between the Nigerian military and Boko Haram insurgents.
Also on Tuesday, the state acting governor, Alhaji
Ahmed Fintiri, visited the recuperating Lieutenant-Colonel Obasanjo and wished
him quick recovery.
A Source at the hospital told the Nigerian Tribune
that Atiku was glad to find Obasanjo in high spirit.
According to the source, the former vice president
was impressed to learn from the injured officer his readiness to return to the
front to deal with the insurgents.
The source quoted Atiku to have told
Lieutenant-Colonel Obasanjo that he was impressed to see him display the type
of courage associated with his former boss, President Obasanjo.
Also, Alhaji Fintiri saluted the courage and
steadfastness of all officers of the Nigeria Army, who were battling to curtail
the activities of insurgents in Mubi senatorial one of the state.
He gave the commendation when he visited
Lieutenant-Colonel Obasanjo, adding that the people are very proud of the
soldiers, who had lost their lives in the course of duties.
Earlier in the day, the acting governor had, in a
statewide broadcast, described the events of the past four days of incursions
by insurgents into the headquarters of Madagali and Michika local government
areas of the state as “an unfortunate chapter in the history of the state.”
While sympathising with people of the two councils,
he assured that everything was being done to bring the situation under control.
