There was palpable tension around Iyana
School Bus Stop area of Lagos State on Friday as a group men protested
against the killing of two persons by a policeman attached to the Iba Police
Post.
The police in the state confirmed the death
of one person but claimed that commercial motorcyclists attacked
policemen who were on their way to black spots in the area.
The protesters, who chanted war songs and
held dangerous weapons, remained on the streets for more than three hours,
threatening to set the police station on fire.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer in
the state, Lelma Kolle, claimed that the victims died during a clash between
two groups of hoodlums.
He also claimed that the police, while trying
to disperse the “violent” motorcyclists, who allegedly attempted to burn a
police station, fired and the shots hit two of them in the leg.
