Tougher Action Awaits Recxkless Drivers..New FRSC Boss

The new Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, has read a riot act on reckless driving as tougher sanctions await reckless motorists across the country.

Oyeyemi gave this indication in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him to replace Osita Chidoka who has been named the Minister of Aviation.

He said although it was too early to unveil his agenda for the Corps, he would work hard to build on the foundation already laid by his predecessor, Chidoka.

He said, “The foundation has been laid. We shall continue the transformation of the FRSC. We shall not fail Nigerians. “We already have a foundation that we will build on. We will improve on it. It is too early now. But we will do our best.”

Speaking further, Oyeyemi identified attitude of the Nigerian motoring public as the bane towards safer roads in the country and pledged that the FRSC will harness its potentials to ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.

Addressing a parade later at the FRSC national headquarters in Abuja, the new Corps Marshal commended Dr. Goodluck Ebelle Jonathan for the confidence he has with the FRSC to deliver on its mandate by appointing a career officer from the Corps to succeed the former Corps Marshal, Osita Chidoka.

He also gave kudos to the former Corps Marshal and the FRSC Board for making positive recommendations in the same direction which facilitated the Presidential approval for him as the new Corps Marshal.

Boboye Oyeyemi also urged officers and men of the FRSC to perceive this development as encouraging for the growth of the FRSC as obtained in other Para-Military agencies. According to him, “this seamless transition will no doubt, provide the impetus for career progression in the FRSC as every staff will have the opportunity to get to the peak of his career”.

Similarly, Oyeyemi also called for the co-operation of the entire FRSC work force to sustain the transformation process which was initiated by the last dispensation of the Corps, which has placed the Corps in the front burner, especially in the area of information and communication technology, intensive patrols, robust public enlightenment campaigns, rescue services and strict enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.
