Police Impound Government Vehicles Evacuating Office Equipment From Edo Assembly

A faction of the House
The Edo state Police command on Friday evening impounded several
Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles, which were found to have gained illegal
entrance into the premises of the Edo state Assembly.
The vehicles with EDSG green registration number plates were allegedly
on orders ion the Speaker of the Assembly Uyi Igbe who the arrested
drivers of the vehicles said supplied them keys,
The drivers according to Police sources said they were asked to
evacuate assorted assembly equipments and official materials including
computers and office files, fans and chairs to a location in the
Governor's office.
Recall the Assembly which is in two factions has 9 PDP members led by
the former deputy Speaker Festus Ebea and 15 APC members led by
Speaker Uyi Igbe has been in crisis since June 9 2014 when it
suspended Ebea and three PDP members who dumped the APC.
The assembly has been unable to convene plenary since then as the PDP
and APC lawmakers lay claim to the use of the chambers for plenary
without either party succumbing.
However last week the Igbe faction of the assembly arguing that the
state executive has awarded the contract for the renovation of the Edo
state assembly complex along Ring Road Benin City announced that it
has moved plenary to the office of the governor.
Without the PDP lawmakers, the 15 APC lawmakers present at the office
of the governor on Wednesday reportedly impeached Ebea and replaced
him with Victor Edoror a former PDP member who joined the APC in
February.
Unconfirmed Police sources say that all the impounded vehicles have
been moved to the Command Headquarters while the drivers are being
detained for further information about their escapades.
The Police is working on the premise that since the assembly complex
is under lock and an not accessible to lawmakers or their aides, there
must be an inside hand in the incident.
