FG Release Cut Off Mark Into Nigerian Universities etc

Candidates who scored 180 and above in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, could secure admission into their universities of choice, policy committee on admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria has said. Similarly, the committee has put cut-off mark for admission into polytechnics and colleges of education for the 2014/2015 session at 150.
Chairman of the committee and Supervising Minister of Education, Barr Nyesom Wike, made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja during the meeting of the committee.
The figures were also used for last year’s admissions into the nation’s tertiary institutions of learning.
The Minister charged the institutions to abide by admission guidelines into the nation’s tertiary schools.
In his remark, Chairman, Governing Board of JAMB, Barr Peter Eze, called on state-owned schools to abide by admission guidelines to help promote unity, integration, geographical spread and equity. “Accordingly, the 45:35:20 admissions quota for the merit, catchment area and educationally-less developed states, ELDS, criteria should be complied with by federal institutions.
“State-owned institutions, on the other hand, are enjoined to comply with the 40:40:20 admissions quota for the merit, catchment area, and educationally- less-developed LGAs (ELDL) criteria, respectively.
“Privately-owned institutions are, however, expected to submit to the board the acceptable ratio of national merit and other criteria that they want to adopt in the admissions exercise,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, which had in attendance, representatives of all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, JAMB Registrar, Prof Dibu Ojerinde said total applications for first degree in the last examination was 1,584,348; while NCE was 25,767, ND, 22,012 and NID 46; giving a total of 1,632,173 applications for the last exercise. Imo State, according to him, had the highest applicants with a little less than 120,000 applications.
