Renown Kaduna-based cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud
Gumi, last night posted on his Facebook page four shocking photographs
purporting to show how Nigerian soldiers executed unarmed civilians and buried
them in a mass grave in Borno state. He described the act as a genocide that
must be investigated. The civilians were most probably rounded up as suspects
in the ongoing security crackdown on Boko Haram insurgents. In the first
photograph, a soldier is seen standing guard as poorly dressed civilians many of them in their teens line up in an open field indicating a Savannah
environment. A waiting white van can be seen in front of them. None of the civilians
has a shoe or slippers on.. The second picture shows the civilians lying flat
on their stomachs, all dead. A third photograph shows a wider perspective of
the executed men just as a small group of young men dig a mass grave beside the
corpses. The fourth picture shows the group of grave-diggers pouring the
grotesque-looking corpses of the executed men into the mass grave from the back
of the white van. A few soldiers can be seen in the background, with some
sitting in a military van. Gumi accompanied the photographs with a terse
statement titled Genocide Committed in Borno. started the statement by quoting
a United States government official, saying: The acting Assistant Secretary of
State for African Affairs, Robert Jackson said: When soldiers destroy towns,
kill civilians and detain innocent people with impunity, mistrust takes
root.Gumi wrote: This crime must not go unpunished. The international community
should institute an inquiry and forensics search of other mass graves and bring
to those culpable to book. Please, let us control our emotions and pray to Allah
to expose all the criminals among us. So many innocent people have suffered.
Enough is enough.May Allah save us all. Amin. The outspoken cleric did not,
however, mention when the alleged mass executions took place or give further
details.Efforts to contact him by our correspondent last night failed as he did
not answer a call put to his telephone.Gumi has often promoted the notion that
the Boko Haram insurgency is a plot by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
to destabilize Nigeria. A recent instance was a Facebook post he made on
Tuesday this week in which he linked a 32:29-minute YouTube video of a 40-year-old
American radio host, author, conspiracy theorist and documentary filmmaker,
Alex Jones, titled Obama’s CIA Runs Boko Haram. It is said that in the video
Jones breaks down how Boko Haram is run by the CIA, how its used to destabilize
the surrounding region and give foreign governments an excuse to intervene and
seize valuable assets. The title of Gumi’s response to the YouTube post can be
translated from Hausa language as nothing happens without a purpose.
This is photograph cannot be tendered as an evidence to the crime that is alledged to have been commited here! Infact alot of photographs circulated on several blogs as what is going on in the theatre of the boko haram war should be discredited as often times incidence that took place in other countries in the past are portrayed as having taken place in Nigeria. I think there is a campaign of calumny against the Nigerian Army by some dishonest people to achieve their own selfish interests!
ReplyDeleteReason b4 making comments pls, bk killin ppl nt sojas? U get eyes at all.
ReplyDeleteWhy the notion of this Islamic cleric is laughable is that:
ReplyDelete1) It is a generally acknowledged fact that boko haram insurgents usually dress in military fatigues when going out to carry out attacks; they were so dressed when they kidnapped our girls in Chibok;
2) Boko haram creatures boast of military trucks and APC (armoured personnel carrier) vehicles among their weaponry which they seized during confrontations with soldiers etc.
That he has failed miserably in trying to whip up public sentiments is not in doubt. I trust he doesnt have a case at all. These are the kinds of things people do that make people accuse them of being sympathetic with terrorists. I am even beginning to suspect so. What manner of genocide?
If I may ask, could this Islamic cleric do us a favour by telling us how he stumbled on those photographs? I am really curious. #justSaying#
DeleteWe all know that the aim of the northern elite and their cleric is to discredit the military for not doing their work properly, but it is obvious from the pictures that the mass killing is the act of the BH, in the fourth picture where the death bodies are evacuated from the white pickup, it is obvious that those people working and walking around are BH both in military commonflag and on normal clothes, and i know also that our military guys are not that stupid to carry out such action and allow civilians to be and around and someone snapping even in a place shown in the picture, so it is the BH guys that did it and sharing it tru their Leader to discredit the military.
DeleteWe fail to understand issues here, the said BK re the onces using military uniforms ti distabilise the military, they commits all d atrocities and pin it on the military,(he so called military leader is tending a. Useless and baseless facts as a vedio,if more investigation is conducted we all we discover he is a member of this seck andd has a link with them in one way or the orther, why all these years, months, days he has never condem the BH crime only blackmailing the military,1e should wake up and reason heavily
ReplyDeleteThe cleric should be investigated he is a BH member.
ReplyDeleteSo just because he posted these pictures & wanted an investigation to be carried out makes him a member too? Then your conclusion that he's a member makes you a member too going by your childish theory
DeleteBut they can not go to Sambisa Forest and fight the real Boko Haram?
ReplyDeleteMy friend thus that abducted thus girls are beyond our military is purely political is a CIA operation so our militatary can't do anything that is why they didt go to that forest?
ReplyDeleteThe abduction is done by federal govt Boko Haram?
ReplyDeleteour army kils inocent ppl. Evn in abia vilages were wiped. 4 jst osisi ka nkwu. We all knw. Stop decieving urselves.later osisi ka nkwu was kiled. Wat abt d inocent lives dat were wasted? Our army leaves d main job n atack freeborns of our nation. Am an imo state man.
ReplyDeleteTo me , this allegation should be meticulously investigated and if proven to be true then the authority involved will be sanctioned but if found otherwise, the cleric should be arrested and tried for calumny .
ReplyDeleteWhere did this gunmi man got these pictures from..was he there with them.? Cos some of these happenings are not in Nigeria..
ReplyDeleteMalam you said the truth these matter should be investigated
ReplyDeleteNo mind dem,y una go dey worry?,nobe hausa people dem dey burry?,d soul of dez innocent boys must judge dem all.. Islamic Cleric my foot...u people ar more corrupt dan nigeria..MTCHEW..........
ReplyDeleteHow did he get these pictures, am so curious about this,,, it purely shows that he was around the vicinity when the incident occurred... he should be investigated to hear more things we Nigerians don't know.
ReplyDeleteI am not persuaded by the Pictures, Gunmi had always been a threat to this Nation himself and was detained vide house arrests for his treasonable utteraces under IBB, I think! Nigerian Solldiers are seasoned in the Rules of Engagement and wouldn't be stupid to be filmed commiting Genocided. The Pictures rather fit perfectly into the hallmarks of BH attrocities. By the way, when will Gunmi condemn BH...not any soon, I believe!
ReplyDeleteIs it a problem of how he got the pics?
ReplyDeleteWhen the whole world have those pics it is funny how you think and ask dumb questions.
These pictures lack credibility. To start the pickup is not not in Nigerian Army colours. It is white color, type used by Boko Haram.
ReplyDeleteYes u re right, d Bh can & are doing this but where I expect d smartness to be was to detect that BH don't bury pple they want their atrocities seen, and yes when BH started during late Yar Adua, a lot of foreign TV capture d seen where Nig police & soldiers lead pple out of their homes to d street & gun down. Where i expect u pple to reason towards is what d sheik should hav done with such evidence cos he is a leader, no ordinary fellow, should hav approach senators, Governors, u know, if he's suspicious of d president as I am, to verify such b4 posting like ordinary rumour monger or mischief maker
ReplyDeleteDr. Ahmad
ReplyDeleteAbubakar Mahmud u are disgrace to Muslims, u frame dis ,but wait how did u expect soldiers to be killing innocent people things are not done like dat, I knw ur reasons of doing this because bk people are killing clerics so u don't want to loose ur life that's y u did this, so that bk will praise u dat u are covering them. U'er a disgrace to Nigeria if I have d power I will order soldier to kill u, u'er a bk mtchew idiot.
