FG INAUGURATES IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE ON RATIONALISATION OF AGENCIES

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Implementation Committee on the White Paper on Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Agencies, Parastatals and Commissions.
The inauguration was performed on Tuesday at the State House Abuja, by the Vice President Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo. The constitution of the Committee which was approved by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has the Secretary to the Government of the Federation as its Chairman and the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice as the Vice Chairman.
 
Other members of the Committee as enumerated by the Vice President are the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Ministers of Aviation, Education, Finance, Health, Industry, Trade and Investment, Science and Technology, as well as that of Tourism, Culture & National Orientation. Also included is the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, while the Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, will serve as the Secretary.
 
Vice President Sambo said the Terms of Reference of the Committee was to exercise overall responsibility for the implementation of the White Paper on the Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Agencies, Parastatals and Commissions; and also to design guidelines, ensure effective coordination and monitoring of the implementation process.
 
Other terms of Reference included to supervise, consider and decide on the recommendations of the four (4) Sub-Committees on the implementation of the White Paper; as well as to advise Government on any other matter(s) that would further facilitate the achievement of the key objectives for the restructuring and rationalization of Federal Government Agencies, Parastatals and Agencies.
 
Arc Sambo inaugurating the 12-member Implementation Committee emphasised the urgency and importance of their work, while also charging them to pursue the terms of reference with the vigour, urgency and patriotism that the task requires.
Vice President Sambo stressed that the ultimate goal of the exercise was not only to reduce cost of governance, but was also to ensure that Federal Government “parastatals, commissions and agencies are performing optimally and delivering effective and efficient services to Nigerians, in line with Mr. President’s Transformation Agenda.”
 
He also challenged the Committee to key into the ongoing study of the successes of some world-class government agencies by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms for others to emulate, saying “this work is very worthwhile and Government looks forward to its completion within the shortest possible time.”
Responding on behalf of the 12-member committee, the
Chairman, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim pledged to do everything possible to carry out the assignment to the expectation of Nigerians.
