Poser:Should Goodluck Have Attended PDP Kano Rally And Olubadan's Birthday After Abuja Bomb Blast?

President Goodluck Jonathan at Olubadan's 100th Birthday yesterday

Condemnations have followed the attendance of the PDP rally in Kano yesterday as well as the 100 years birthday of the Olubadan of Ibadan by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday.

Many people, especially in the opposition have termed President action as insensitive in view of the tragedy that happened on the outskirt of Abuja during which over 100 people were sent to their early graves by a bomb.

Do you think President Goodluck Jonathan should have postponed attending these two events in honour of the dead.

Before answering YES or NO, take time to read the article below concerning a similar action by President Barrack Obama on the day of the Boston Marathon in the USA

Obama Maintains Set Schedule Following Boston Marathon Bombings.

 April 16, 2013

WASHINGTON — President Obama vowed Tuesday to get to the bottom of the Boston bomb attacks but kept to his previously planned schedule, saying it is important to carry on.

“We mourn the victims,” Obama said at an event on the South Lawn. “We pray for their loved ones.

“We don’t let such cowardly acts get in the way of our lives,” he said, and then went on with a ceremony honoring the winner of this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Obama’s response to the Boston attack reflects an approach developed over five years in the Oval Office, shaped by past experience in handling terrorism and the chaos that follows an attack.

On Monday, he spoke publicly just three hours after the bombs exploded, as opposed to the three days it took after the Christmas Day 2009 attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight.

Though he didn’t use the word “terror” to describe the Boston attack on Monday, aides did so within hours. Critical reviews of Obama’s handling of the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, focused on whether the president had declared decisively enough in the early hours that the attack was a terrorist one.

This time, Obama spelled out his thinking more explicitly in the early going. On Tuesday morning, speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room, he said the FBI is investigating the attack “as an act of terrorism.”

“Any time bombs are used to target innocent civilians it is an act of terror,” he said. “What we don’t yet know, however, is who carried out this attack, or why; whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual.

“It will take time to follow every lead and determine what happened,” he said, “but we will find out. We will find whoever harmed our citizens and we will bring them to justice.”

Americans show who they are in responding to such tragedies, he said, with the acts of “heroism and kindness, and generosity and love” that people displayed Monday.

“We also know this,” he said, ”the American people refuse to be terrorized.”

Afterward, he hosted lunch for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of the United Arab Emirates in his private dining room.

In the afternoon, he joined a crowd of NASCAR fans on the South Lawn of the White House to honor racer Brad Keselowski.

  1. This is nonsense, whether he attends birthday or rally in Kano will not bring back the dead, Jonathan is the President, and cannot be the army, police, sss, Dss etc, relevant authorities should be blamed in cases like this, Nigeria does not belong to Jonathan so is security, we have those incharge of security affairs in this country both from the army, police, navy, airforce, immigration and customs to blame.

    1. Assuming it was one of Jonathan children or wife that was kiiied in that explosion or kidnap that unity school would he (Jonatha) still go ahead by attending birthday and also organizing a rally within 24hrs after the that ugly event that took place? Why can't he take an example from the foreigner (the british high commissioner) that donated his blood 2 safe lifes? I am a fan of Jomathan, but am dissapionted with what he has done.

  3. He shouldnt have attended those events, just yet. Let's'tell ourselves the truth and stop taking sides unjustly. He is the father of the nation. And what should a father who had just lost his children through such callous means be doing? Jumping from one party to another?

  10. Obasanjo once told a can chairman in one state "Do you think you love Nigeria more than me? " no body feels this pain more than the number one citizen in the country. The bombers in d USA are against Ameriaca as a nation while Bokoharam is against GEJ himself. I still remember Obama's speech after the bomb blast, he was urging America that they will still stand strong no matter what d enemies do.Gej was wise to note in his speech that he and Nigeria have a common enemy. goodluck was chosen by God and that's why agents of the devil are against him and his life but God is on his side. The country must moove forward , yes lives were lost and nobody prays for such . god bless frn

  12. Well I support what the president has done. The attack only shows that govt must do more. The oppsition must be mindful of the fact that condeming all government doing doesn't in any matter makes them progressives instead regressive. Jonathan is trying to send a message that govt must continue. By summining the nationnal council meeting, it shows visibly that our president is working
