CATTLE
dealers from the North, under the auspices of Cattle Dealers Association of
Nigeria, have informed that they had suspended taking cattle and other goods to
the southern part of the country over alleged killing of their members in Benue
State.
Addressing
journalists at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),
Bauchi State Council, in Bauchi on Tuesday, the chairman of the Gombe State
chapter of the Cattle Dealers’ Association, Alhaji Yahuza Yusuf, stated that
some hoodlums blocked the road at Kwayawa village in Benue State and attacked a
truck conveying cattle to the South.
According
to him, the truck was loaded with cattle worth over N10million, adding that the
truck and the animals were set ablaze by the hoodlums.
He added that five persons were axed to death in the attack, while three of their members were still missing.

In view of
this, Yusuf stated that the association had suspended taking animals and other
goods to the South for three days, to protest the killing of teir members in
Benue State where there had been crisis between Fulani herdsmen and indigenes
in several communities.
Speaking
on behalf of truck owners at the Bauchi Park in Gombe, the chairman of Truck
Owners’ Association, Alhaji Adamu Jumba, appealed to both the Federal
Government and the Benue State government to pay them compensation over the
attack.
According
to him, if this was not done, the association would have no option than to meet
with their members across the country in order to take a common position to
boycott the South.
