NIS Applicants Died Due To Impatience..Interior Minister

Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, has said 520,000 applicants participated in the Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment exercise across the country.
The minister, however, said only 4,556 would be recruited at the end of the exercise, based on the available space.
He said this in Jos, Plateau State capital on Saturday, while monitoring the exercise.
Moro said he learnt that seven people lost their lives at the National Stadium, Abuja, Niger and Lagos states, adding that two of the victims were female and five male.
He said, “The applicants lost their lives due to impatience; they did not follow the laid down procedures spelt out to them before the exercise. Many of them jumped through the fences of affected centres and did not conduct themselves in an orderly manner to make the exercise a smooth one. This caused stampede and made the environment unsecured.”
He stated that the Deputy Comptroller, Immigration Operations and Passport, told him that he cancelled the exercise in Lagos due to the unruly behaviour of applicants.

  1. I think differently most times and I owe no one no apologies because every one is entitled to his own opinion . I give kudos to the NIS for organising such an open recruitment exersize such that has never been recorded in the country ,they gave every un employed interested youth an opportunity to demonstrate his/her capability . Their choice of venue was also splendid as I know that Abuja national stadium can take about 60k. I will only blame them if they did not involve the police and the civil defence corps for adequate security at the centres and if they did , the security outfits should take the full responsibility of the stampede . Do we even know that it is d police responsibility to protect loves and property , if they are proactive enough to stop APC campaign with out permission , why didn't they stop the exercise for security reasons . You want to occupy immigration protest. GET A LIFE !!!

  3. @ Buzen!! Kudos indeed! NIS have 4,556 space bt collected money frm over 1m nigerians for God sake who does dt? They had more than 6months 2 arrange n conduct a good exercise bt they failed as usual, its not abt getting police or security agents 2 do dr job, d question is did d NIS do their jobs well? We are talking of monumental failure dt resulted in2 loss of lives n u are here talking abt praising d NIS for conducting an open recruitment exercise n allowing them show dr ability n capabilty**sic** what's open abt d recruitment exercise where they have 4,500 vacant post n in each state nothing less than 20,000 ppl applied for?**sic*** what's d ability n capability they allowed ppl 2 demonstrate? They wanted 2 know d risk ppl can take 2 get a job in nigeria, 2 know if they can wait frm 7am-5pm for an exam dt didn't take 20mins for those who were lucky 2 see d papers! U talked abt d police doing dr job 2 secure lives, did NIS tell d police d crowd they were expecting? If u dnt give d ryt info u can't get d ryt results? Dr is no way the security detailed 2 ds venues can successfully do dr job if NIS dnt do drs well! There are so many things d NIS failed 2 do n ds has caused ds situation dt d families of d dead are facing now, ds has caused d impatient n stampede dt resulted in deaths n injuries, ds has shown us dt it is as usual who-knows-who recruitment exercise! Stop being overly loyal 2 an obviously wrong cause, cos dts y we are where we are 2day, seeing d truth/lie n painting it 2 suit our pockets n need instead of seeing it d way it is! Its only a moron like abba moro who will still be in d office on monday for ds kind of fowl yansh don open situation we saw on saturday n he rubbed pepper in2 d injury by blaming d applicants! May the souls of d departed RIP n may we never witness ds kind of inhuman recruitment for employement, amen. -Qubrat

  4. What arrant nonsense talk of open recruitment. They had space for only 4500 and then collected N500 million from unemployed youths just to rob them and let them die like ants. What a shameful thing and in anyway those to be recruited won't be part of the people in the stadium anyway. Afterall they will have all sorts of list from ogas at the top consisting of the names of unscreened preferred candidates. Shame shame shame on all this bad people carrying out wickedness in broad day light. God will judge them all

  5. In a sane clime, the likes of Abba Moro would have taken the honourable path and not to insult our sensibilities. Going by the figure he released, it simply means, they collected 520,000000 from unemployed Nigerians even when they had less than 5000 jobs to give out. This is a big shame. To also show their insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians, up till now, no single statement has been issued by the president's spin doctor. Abati, Gulak and Okupe are all quiet in the face of these deaths. But they will be in a haste to respond to APC, shame, shame, shame to all of them and may the souls of the innocent people that died in the stampede rest in peace

  6. The question is , would you have raised an alarm if there was no loss of life ?if your answer is yes then do that for the fact that the applicants were asked to pay which I know wasn't compulsive , but if your grievance was as a result of the lives that were lost , I maintain that the protest should be taking to the appropriate quarters . Thanks for attacking d subject tho

  9. The federal government made #520m a day from jobless youths? Hmmm...this is modern 419. And in the process of seeking 4 a job some of these applicants lost their lifes while the rest job seekers went back home without a fight. What an opportunity 4 these youths 2 start the revolution, but they re 2 timid so, they prefare 2 cry like baby's on this forum

  10. @ Buzen all applicants were asked 2 pay 1k each so saying it wasn't compulsory it means u definitely aren't in nigerian. We wld still have cried out if dr was no death cos u can't justify dt kind of crowd wt d available vacancy. Where d system works all applications shld have been stopped when d numbers were becoming 2 much knowing fully well d available space, y continue 2 open d recruitment portal. As usual nobody will be held accountable for ds shame, as usual ppl n organisation will trade blames shifting n hiding under each other bt d truth still stands NIS RECRUITMENT EXAM 2014 was a sham, a dishonour 2 nigeria n nigerians, a shoddy n shady way 2 reap unemployed youths of dr money, will power, strength n morale, an avenue 2 show openly n brazenly dt the system doesn't give a f..k abt its citizens, an avenue 2 tell d world dt unemployment is @ its highest peak bt of course d govt n ppl like u @ Buzen don't see anything wrong wt what they did! D only thing wrong is for ppl failing 2 take it 2 appropriate quarters n may ask d appropriate quarters in ds case? D house of assembly who were sleeping when 1k was being asked 2 be paid 2 be eligible 2 apply bt suddenly they are now awake 2 say d money shld be refunded, or is it NIS dt milked nigerians of dr money n sweat knowing fully well dt they had just a meagre 4,500 vacancy, or d govt who doesn't care abt its citizen cos if they did by now heads wld have been rolling! We are talking abt our future leaders, our youths who want 2 better dr lifes by working n serving wt d govt 2 make life easy for their generations! Let's stop ds buck passing n see issues @ it is, NIS has failed nigerian youths no excuses!! I will continue 2 voice my anger in any way I can, if peaceful protest will do it I will be in d fore front, enough is enough!! I have loving family n I can't help thinking n wondering n @ d same time thanking God cos it cld have been my family among d dead all for what? For a ruse called recruitment exams? @ Buzen if u put or imagine urself in dt kind of situation I am sure u won't be saying NIS did a good job -qubrat

  13. I have observed that many Nigerians, no matter their level of education, do not value and see the advantages of the QUEUEING CULTURE. I observed during my days as a NYSC corps member how people make things more difficult/worse for themselves and others because of impatience.
That said, I think NIS, in order to make crowd control much less challenging and have respect/value for the human being, could have used many more, applicant friendly/convenient venues, and could have staggered the dates, maybe according to qualification or other convenient criteria.
In the final analysis, I think NIS and their "Ogas at the top" bear the greatest responsibility for the outcome and fallout of the process.

**The Queueing culture allows for fairness, orderliness which greatly limits avoidable delay/distraction due to human action, and allows for proper focus on actual work (reason for the queue in the first place)
