CKN Nigeria Food For Thought..When Will Our Generation Take Over?

CKN Flakes..
Awolowo was (37), Akintola (36), Ahmadu Bello (36) Balewa (34) and Okotie-Eboh (27), Enahoro (27) led the struggle for independence after the death of Macaulay. Only Zik was 42 at the time.

In 1966, the first coup was led by: Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and countered by Murtala Mohammed (28), Theophilus Danjuma (28), Babangida (25), Nanven Garba (23), Sani Abacha (23), Shehu Musa Yaradua (23), and brought into power Gowon (32), Ojukwu (33), Obasanjo (29), Buhari (24).

Most of the military administrators who governed the states under the successive military regimes, most of whom are governors now, were under 30 years.

The brief democratic dispensation which interjected the military interregnums also saw the House of Representatives in particular populated by majority of members under 30 years as well as some senators.

Under 30s were also not in short supply with appointments, we have examples of MT Mbu who became foreign affairs minister at 23 and Pat Utomi who became a presidential adviser at 27 and so on and so forth.

NOW:
Why is it that this age bracket is today still sleeping in 3 seater chairs in their parents’ homes?

Why is it that this age bracket is today still collecting pocket money from their parents?

Why is it that this age bracket is today still writing JAMB?

Why is it that this age bracket is today still sagging their trousers?

Why is it that this age bracket is today still searching for jobs?

Why is it that this age bracket is today no longer qualified to even be leaders of youth wings of political parties?

Why is it that this age bracket is today so docile?

Why is it that this age bracket is today still incapable of feeding itself?

Why is it that this age bracket is today barred by law from even aspiring to certain political offices?

Why is it that this age bracket is today incapacitated, unwilling, unable and incapable of asking question?

Where lies our destiny?

  1. Hmmm! Questions, questions and more questions with little or no answers! But for me, I will attribute this to the clique of power drunk elites who have refused to retire and make way for the younger generation. You will recall that during those earlier part of Nigeria existence when those age bracket made waves, our political landscape was different compare to what we have today. Is it not surprising that most of the people (living) mentioned above and their cronies are still the ones dominating our political scene today thereby shielding the younger generation from coming? How then will the younger generation break into power equation if they don't have god father in the present day Nigeria with clique of politicians?

  4. Its because today age bracket re cowards. We re scared of what we heard from these corrupt leaders about what happened 2 Ojukwu and his people when they rebelled against the Nigerian government. We don't know the differernt between a Revolution and a Conventional war. The Nigerian youths today re waiting for OBJ or the late Ojukwu 2 give them the power, but we have forgotten that the youths (OBJ & co) of yesterdays took the power by force that's why we remain where we re 2day by watching those old men looting our money while we prefare 2 dance azonto and skelewu at over 30yrs of age or run 2 poor countries 2 beg 4 food rather than 2 confront the Monster just like the youths in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and so on, who re less than us in population and also poorer than us, but leaving far better off than us.

  5. During the time of those people mentioned, there were few enlightened/educated people before them who could sideline them. But now that young age bracket have men of timber and caliber of all sorts before them who will continue to be relevant. It is not different in developed economies.

  6. Then was dark age! Non of those leaders know their actual age, bcos of that, somebody mayb 45 n claim 25 yes there was no records.compare hw grown a child must b in d 1970s-80s b4 starting elementary schools to now.things now ar more co-ordinated n real than b4.snatching power by coup plot, blood sheds n force, wasnt d right way,it folows curses dat contribute 2 part of d problems nigeria is faces 2day. Nothing works by blood shed.nigeria is civilised n better,d problem we ar facing 2day is over population wit unproductive people. Hw percentage of nigerians ar contribution 2 national dev.n productivity? We all depend on Niger delta n oil money.d problem we're facing 2day is as a result visionless administration of our past leaders.Nigeria wasnt ripe 4 indepence they culd hav allow d Whites 2 fix things 4 us first b4 calling 4 indepence.compare South africa that has indepence in 1991 to nigeria of 1960 which is better?Nigeria cant be fix over night as we wish it to be!

  7. Very salient questions CKN but do you really have hope in thIs generation of young men. Generation that go about with fake certificates, go to the university and 'block' their way through. A generation that take pleasure in taking indian hemp and inhaling cocaine? A generation of serial rapists, a generation that sag even at 40 years, many of them are cult members and murderers, armed robbers in the night and undergraduates in the afternoon. I can go on and on but there is no need to continue because this is a wasted generation. They would be worse than these political robbers. Let's look up to God. Cheer up!

  9. These corrupt leaders of today will never lead us through to see the light from the tunnel. They only believe that governance should be just within them where by they pave way for their son and daughters to take over from wherever they stops.Count from Babangida,Obasanjo,Abacha,Yaradua etc. These recycled idiots has never asked themselves one day if Nigeria belong to all Nigerians?Otherwise, there are a lot of intellectuals home and abroad who educated and fit to pull this country out of this misery where we have all lost hope for tomorrow.A country of hundred years old still nothing to write home about.SHAME TO ALL OUR LEADERS PAST AND PRESENT.
