Anambra Stands Still For Chinua Achebe Today (Pictures)




Late Literary Icon ,Prof Chunua Achebe stood like a colossus this afternoon as thousands of people trooped into the Alex Ekwueme Square to pay their last respect.
Dignitaries at the event include the State Governor Peter Obi, past Governor Chris Ngige and other distinguished Senators.
Others who spoke at the event according to CKN Nigeria  reporter at the venue Nnamdi Abana include Dr Oby Ezekwesili,Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker and the State Chief Judge.
The casket bearing the late ICON was led at the centre of the arena under a canopy with people filing to pay their last respect.
There was a large presence of several Europeans from across the globe, mostly his colleagues and former students.
Several Igbo masquerades and dance groups were also on hand to add colour to the event.
The State government printed a 57 colour page brochure of Icon and his works which was distributed free of charge all attendees.
The Anambra State Broadcasting service also recorded a mini documentary on DVD that was sold at N200.
