46 Policemen,10 SSS Men Killed In Nasarawa...SSS Admits

THE national president of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association, Mr Chris Mamman, on Tuesday, announced that about 270 people, security operatives inclusive, lost their lives in the last week Tuesday’s clash between the  outlawed Ombatse boys and security personnel at Alakyo village, in Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa.
This is just as the police and State Security Service (SSS), on Tuesday, admitted laxity over the massacre that took place in Alakyo village, as they claimed 46 policemen and 10 SSS operatives were killed by the cult.
Mamman, who gave the figure during the press conference at the palace of Aran-Eggon, in Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state, lamented that the casualty figure was higher on the part of villagers than the security operatives.
He further explained that with the statistics available to the association, the Ombatse group also lost 21 of its kinsmen during the fracas and they had since been buried at the village.
The national president said members of proscribed Ombatse group were just 10 per cent of Eggon nation, saying the situation would have been averted if the government applied wisdom in carrying out the operations.
He said Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura was in agreement with the Eggon people on one single term tenure before they voted for him in 2011, adding that the governor has not reneged its part of the agreement, either publicly or secretly.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, and that of the SSS, Ms Marilyn Ogar, at the joint security information forum, said “if we had known that the situation would be bloody, we would have had the military back-up.”
Mba accused the civil societies of turning blind eye to the mass killing of policemen during the attacks and wondered why they had been silent since the incident happened.
