A recent research has revealed that 70 percent of the nine million
almajiris who engage in street begging across Nigeria are from north west
geo-political zone,
The Dean of Post Graduate School, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, Professor Ahmed Adam Okene, who disclosed this during a workshop on street begging yesterday in Minna, also noted that 30 percent of children in Northern Nigeria were out of school and engaged in street begging.
The state government had organised the workshop to seek solutions to the problem of street begging in the state.

ReplyDeleteIt is so so so very sad that everything thing in this country is reduced to issue of religion or ethnicity. Is that the way forward or solotion to the problem? So, some of us say begging is part of Islam, how does that tackle the issue. I am sure somewehere in the Christians scriptures there's a phrase like "either say good or remain silent" maybe not in this exact words. Pls let us all be more open minded, see wider than the tunnel sites and be less ethnocentric. The begging phenomena begets a national and wholisitic solution.
ReplyDeleteMost of these almajiri children were not born beggars. It is solely the fault of their parents. They send their little child to an entirely different state just to do islamic school. Is there anything wrong with the schools around their homes? And secondly,the pareants of these children know nothing about family planning. The women take in almost immeidately after they give birth, hence they could bear children every single year. Why have children you know u can not take care of. The issue of almagiri in nigeria was born out of the wickedness and ignorance of parents, and most importantly illiteracy.

In addition all those who observed errors in their data should try to correct same at this time.
