The House of Representatives yesterday approved the recommendation of its ad-hoc committee on fuel subsidy regime that a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ahmadu Ali, and others be prosecuted over their role in subsidy management in the country.
This was part of the 35 out of the 61 recommendations so far adopted by the House yesterday even as it granted temporary reprieve to the 17 marketers that failed to appear before the Faruk Lawan-led committee during the public hearing.Ali, who was the chairman of the board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) from 2009-2011, and the entire members of the board were recommended for prosecution and reprimanded by the executive arm of government.
The House further approved that “the Executive Secretaries of PPPRA, under whose watch the abuses were perpetrated that led to the government losing billions of naira, should be held liable.”
Accordingly, it directed the anti-corruption agencies to, as a matter of urgency and national importance, act immediately.
