This again is a clear indication that the murder of the troops was a communally orchestrated attack against legitimate forces.

The falsehood being peddled by these criminals and their cohorts to whip up sentiments and sway the public to coverup, endorse or support the outrageous criminal acts of their armed youth gang should be disregarded in its entirety, it is only a ridiculous attempt at justifying their crime, rather than turn in themselves to security agencies. There is no amount of propaganda that would arm-twist the narrative, they are complicit and must be ready to face the wrath of the law.

While law-abiding citizens are assured that there will be no reprisal on the part of the troops, we enjoin all to go about their normal activities, even as ongoing efforts are scaled up to positively identify and isolate the criminals to account for their atrocious deeds.

The Chief of Army of Staff, Lt Gen Toareed Lagbaja, while commiserating with the families of the officers and soldiers who lost their lives, has directed that no stone should be left unturned until the perpetrators of this gruesome acts are apprehended to face the full wrath of the law. Troops are determined to get to these criminals, there is certainly no hiding place for them.

ONYEMA NWACHUKWU

Major General

Director Army Public Relations

18 March 2024
CKN NEWShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245589149509423595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078506883199109738.post-1246659205010961762024-03-18T18:19:00.004+01:002024-03-18T18:19:24.652+01:00“I’ve Reconciled With Sen Lalong, Rt Hon Idris Ahmed Wase” ....Sen Joshua Dariye.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; He was convicted of nine company law offences, 73 counts of theft and five counts of deception.

The court was told he stole church funds, including cheques made payable to cash and cheques of up to €20,000 made payable to him personally. He was said to have ran “an elaborate fraud” involving the inflation of donations made to the church, which resulted in the Revenue Commissioners reimbursing more than it should have under the Charitable Donation Scheme.

The church he once led claims to operate on “a mandate to preach the gospel of Jesus to all people and nations, and its members to live a lifestyle of holiness”. It also defines itself as “a bible believing church under the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit”.

The church at one point had a membership of more than 100 families, many of whom were the source of the donations from which Oduntan benefited.

Current Pastor of the RCCG City of David in Ireland Albert Adewunmi said member numbers declined in the wake of the scandal.

Midway through his trial, Oduntan pleaded guilty to nine charges of furnishing false information to the Companies Registration Office, five counts of deception and 19 counts of theft. The jury in the case, before Judge Martina Baxter, on Wednesday returned guilty verdicts on all 54 outstanding charges.

After the verdicts were returned, Oduntan was remanded in custody by Judge Baxter and is due to appear before the court again on April 10th.
CKN NEWShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245589149509423595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078506883199109738.post-28539826050836672952024-03-18T11:52:00.001+01:002024-03-18T11:52:04.180+01:00Pastor’s Wife Pours Female Evangelist Hot Water In Abia State

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Elumelu, CFR, founded Heirs Holdings after making significant strides in reshaping Nigeria's banking industry. Elumelu made history when he led the biggest merger in sub-Saharan Africa at the time, combining Standard Trust Bank Plc with the older, more established United Bank for Africa (UBA), which at the time was Nigeria's 3rd largest financial services institution. In establishing Heirs Holdings, Elumelu’s goal was to transform the African economy through strategic long-term investments in sectors critical for Africa's progress.

Speaking on the new TVC, the Company’s Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Clari Green, said that in its thirteen years of existence, Heirs Holdings has established a reputation for being consistent in creating value while driving Africa’s social and economic agenda.

She stated, “Heirs Holdings has an investment portfolio which spreads across twenty-four countries worldwide, this is as intimidating as the significant milestones it has achieved since it launched in 2010 with a bold strategy to focus on the African continent and unlock its socio-economic potential,” while listing some of the key milestones which include:

In 2011, Heirs Holdings identified its first strategic investment opportunity, acquiring a controlling stake in Transcorp, leading the organisation into an era of year-on-year growth and expansion into the power sector.

Transcorp Power acquired 100% ownership and management of Ughelli Power Plc, with 972 MW installed capacity, but actual production of only 160MW. Transcorp Power surpassed the five-year performance target of 670MW set for it in 2013 by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), by increasing the available capacity of Ughelli Power Plant from 160MW to 701MW within four (4) years of taking over the Plant. Last year, Transcorp Power became the first power generation company to be discharged from post-privatisation monitoring.

Afriland Properties Plc, a real estate investee company of Heirs Holdings grew its portfolio size to over N12 billion and has become one of the largest land banks in Nigeria.

Heirs Holdings founded Avon Healthcare Limited (Avon HMO), which celebrated a decade of unwavering commitment to exceptional healthcare last year, impacting over 230,000 lives through 2,500 hospitals across the world, paying over N24bn ($32m) in claims in 10 years.

In 2015, Heirs Holdings’ philanthropic arm, the Tony Elumelu Foundation launched its flagship Entrepreneurship Programme committing US $100 million to identify, train, mentor, and fund 10,000 African entrepreneurs over 10 years, across 54 African countries. Today, the Tony Elumelu Foundation has surpassed its initial goal by directly funding 20,000 entrepreneurs and has provided over 1.5 million young Africans with access to training via its digital platform, TEFConnect.

Heirs Holdings successfully acquired OML17 from Shell, TOTAL, and ENI in a $1.2 billion transaction, the largest oil and gas transaction in Africa for the year 2021. OML 17, operated by Heirs Energies, has a peak production of over 80 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day) of gas at its gas plant in Agbada, Rivers State.

In 2021, Heirs Holdings launched digital-first insurance companies rebranded as Heirs Insurance Group, a formidable family of three insurance brands offering General Insurance, Life Insurance, and insurance broking services, to democratise access to insurance and drive financial inclusion. The Group’s commitment to simplifying the insurance experience has led to its rollout of digital and mobile service channels, as well as the launch of innovative customer-first initiatives such as the first digital insurance Experience Centre.

In the same vein, 2024 is shaping up to be an amazing year for the Heirs Holdings Group. With the year just nearing the end of its first quarter, Heirs Holdings (HH) has continued in its track record of success.

The year started for HH with a surge as the market capitalisation of its Nigerian Exchange (NGX) listed investee companies skyrocketed to an astounding N2.4 trillion, with two of the companies, United Bank for Africa, and Transcorp Group’s hotel subsidiary, Transcorp Hotels, crossing the one-trillion-naira mark, joining the league of SWOOTs.

In another significant stride, Transcorp Group orchestrated the successful listing of Transcorp Power, one of its power subsidiaries, on the main board of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

This move not only further bolstered the company's portfolio but also injected an additional N1.8 trillion into the market capitalisation of NGX. In less than two weeks Transcorp Power’s market capitalisation grew to over N2.8 trillion. With a combined generating capacity of approximately 2,000 MW between itself and its sister company, Transafam Power, Transcorp Group’s power subsidiaries account for 15.5% of the total installed capacity in Nigeria.

Additionally, Heirs Energies, a subsidiary of Heirs Holdings, recently announced a further expansion of its gas supply business, supplying the recently commissioned 188 MW power plant operated by Geometric Power Limited, located in Aba, Abia State. Heirs Energies also supplies gas to TransAfamPower Limited, with a capacity of 966MW, and First Independent Power Limited (FIPL), with a capacity of 541MW, as well as local distribution companies, gas-based industries, and other industrial customers, directly contributing to Nigeria’s industrial and economic growth.

Over the course of thirteen years, Elumelu built Heirs Holdings into a symbol of business excellence, becoming a dominant force in Africa's corporate sphere as a transformation expert. Not only is Heirs Holdings generating socio-economic prosperity, but it's also spearheading and championing African-centric solutions on a global scale, through its philanthropic arm, the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Amidst these triumphs, Heirs Holdings unveiled yet another ambitious venture: the launch of its new subsidiary, Heirs Technologies, a world-class digital transformation company, set to define excellence in the technology sector. However, the crescendo of Heirs Holdings' remarkable year came with the highly anticipated launch of its pioneer television commercial on CNN International. The unveiling of this commercial marks a pivotal moment for the company as it embarked on a new chapter of global visibility and engagement.

As Heirs Holdings continues to chart new frontiers and push the boundaries of possibility, the launch of its pioneer television commercial echoes the broader narrative of Africa's transformative potential, heralding a future filled with endless possibilities and opportunities for growth and prosperity for the ‘Heirs’ of the African heritage.

CKN NEWShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245589149509423595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078506883199109738.post-80781179242564848402024-03-18T09:49:00.003+01:002024-03-18T09:49:42.389+01:00CSO Condemns Attempts To Undermine Legislative Oversight Amid Budget Controversy

In the wake of escalating tensions surrounding allegations of budget padding within the National Assembly, the Save Nigeria Forum (SNF), a prominent Civil Society Organization (CSO) dedicated to promoting good governance and accountability, has issued a stern rebuke against what it perceives as attempts by certain opposition groups to undermine the critical oversight role of the legislative arm of government.

The SNF expressed deep concern over the surge of unfounded accusations and efforts to tarnish the integrity of the National Assembly, particularly concerning alleged instances of budget padding. However, it is imperative for me, as a responsible representative, to be kept informed and included in matters that concern our region and our nation.

“I remain steadfast in my dedication to serving my Senatorial district, the North, Nigeria, and the Senate with integrity and accountability. It is my sincere hope that we can work together to ensure the interests of all stakeholders are upheld.”

Though other lawmakers, who have been threatened by their constituents, are yet to openly recant, it was learnt that they have reached out to Ningi and may explain their roles openly in the coming days.

Some of them have already rushed to national television stations to explain their roles while giving details about the share they got from the 2024 national budget.

Daily Sun has learnt that one of the possible consequences is the frustration of any serious request from President Bola Tinubu, especially issues surrounding the constitution review.

One of the key requests expected from President Tinubu is the creation of State Police. With recent developments in the upper legislative chamber, the chances the bill would scale through are slim. The ongoing constitution review exercise, Daily Sun gathered, would also address issues such as independent candidacy to contest for an elective office; federal structure and power devolution; fiscal federalism and revenue allocation; judicial and electoral reforms; immunity for presiding officers of the national and state assemblies; full local government fiscal autonomy; state creation agitations; among others.

Members of the committees may also face the challenge of revisiting the age-long quests to separate the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation/state from the office of minister/commissioner for justice; change in procedure for the enactment of an entirely new constitution, which includes a referendum; inclusion of basic education and primary healthcare in fundamental and justiciable human rights.

Other issues are inclusion of electoral offences as a ground to disqualify candidates from future elections; mandatory presentation of the yearly state of the nation address to a joint session of the National Assembly by the President; and removal of presidential assent to constitution amendment bills.

Chief Whip of the Senate, Mohammed Ali Ndume from Borno State, has already kicked off the offensive against certain components of the proposed amendments.

Ndume who was one of those opposed to the suspension of Ningi, said the Nigeria Police at presently constituted, should be strengthened to bring about enhanced and effective policing of the country.

Ndume, in an interview after the episode that happened on the floor of the Senate, said his opposition to the establishment of state Police was a personal opinion, stating that if put on the floor of the Senate, he would vote against it.

The senator appealed to the Federal Government to recruit more into the Nigeria Police, maintaining that the ratio of police personnel to the populace according to international required standard was grossly inadequate at the moment in the country.

“I won’t vote for state police if it comes up in the constitution amendment process because it would be abused by governors. I support that they should take away all their police (officer).

“One senator will be going around with 10 policemen, seven, members of House of Reps, everybody. That is for those who are mobile. Some even give security to their wives, others give security to their children. I am against that,” he said.

Daily Sun reliably gathered from senators that the outburst by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, which has been described as demeaning for his exalted position, has further widened the gulf.

One of the senators said Bamidele has lost face with some ranking senators, especially former governors and those from the North, who many have claimed, were targeted by the Ekiti lawmaker during his no-hold-back remarks.

Bamidele, Adeola Olamilekan and Jimoh Ibrahim, all from the South West, led the push for the suspension of Ningi last Tuesday. However, Bamidele’s outburst sealed Ningi’s fate.

Bamidele had said: “We must never accept any apology from Senator Ningi. It is ridiculous to do so. He lied deliberately. Mr Senate President, you’re occupying that seat 40 years after a South South person occupied it.

“The last time a Southerner was there was during Obasanjo and they were being changed every time. It was only stable when it returned to the North. David Mark spent 8 years, Saraki completed his 4 years, Lawan spent his four years.

“Don’t be deceived, the losers of June 2023 Senate President election are still angry. Some have accepted but a few haven’t. They have plotted to remove you before June 2024.

That is why you must not allow this deliberate mischief by Ningi to go away. He did it on purpose. He knew he was lying, he set the public against you, he will do it again. We must apply our sanction,” an angry Bamidele had noted.

The outburst by Bamidele, who by convention, is supposed to calm angry lawmakers, is still reverberating in the polity. How the damage control would be handled in the coming days will foretell how far the division in the Senate will last for.

CKN NEWShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245589149509423595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9078506883199109738.post-21229713240408731322024-03-18T06:13:00.002+01:002024-03-18T10:42:12.800+01:00MFM : Nigerians Condemn Detention Of Gospel Singer, Ayotunde Richard By Police

Some Civil Society organisations (CSOs) have described the continued detention of Ayotunde Richard, a gospel singer by Nigeria Police as an act of illegality and undermining the integrity of the judiciary.

The Nigerian police had arrested Richard over a petition from a lawyer identified as Davidson Adejuwon.

The lawyer accused Richard and others of sundry acts of cyberbullying and libeling against Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) founder, Prof. Daniel Olukoya.

Justice D.T. Despite this profound loss, he persevered, and is currently serving as the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) at Onipanu Police Station, Ogun State Command, a role that brings him closer to his family home in Sango-Ota.

According to the Senior Officer, discussions in his household are open and free-flowing, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing societal challenges.
