DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SPEAKER IMPEACHED

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Ovwigho Igbuya has been impeached by members of the House.

There are conflicting report regarding the time the speaker was impeached.

It was gathered that he was allegedly impeached at about 7am, but political loyalists of the impeached speaker said the impeachment took place at 2am, early hours of Thursday.

With the impeachment, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has emerged the new Speaker of the House.

The impeachment notice was signed by twenty two lawmakers of the Assembly.

Contacted at about 7:45am, Rt. Hon. Monday Ovwigho Igbuya did not allow Our Delta State Correspondent introduce himself to him before he said,” Abeg call me back later.”

There are no clear reasons as to why the Speaker was impeached.

He did not also respond to text message sent across to his mobile phone.

Different reasons have been adduced to his impeachment.

Impeccable sources say his impeachment was allegedly sponsored by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Michael Diden, a.k.a, Ejele who splashed money on other members of the house to do the dirty political job.

Political watchers say the impeachment of Hon. Monday Igbuya may not be unconnected with the threat he allegedly handed down to opposition lawmakers in the House to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP or forfeit the constituency project funds in their possession.

Others say his impeachment may have been because he vowed not to support Chief Ighoyota Amori’s ambition as chairman of the PDP in Delta State.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Henry Ebireri, Hon. Igbuya had said, ” Amori contesting the chairmanship position is taking a step backward. He is bigger than that. His mates are national officers of the party. He should think of becoming a national officer of the party. If he decides to contest, I will not support him.”

Some have also alleged that Igbuya’s impeachment is because he was suspected to be planning to run for governorship in 2023, a report he has also denied.

” I did not say I will be governor in 2023. I don’t have the finance. Treat the rumor as baseless and false.”
