TWO DIE IN LEKKI BUILDING COLLAPSE

Two artisans were yesterday killed and another injured after a building collapsed in Lekki area of Lagos State.

The building, situated at Nicon Town Estate, Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase One, was under construction when it caved in around 11:40a.m.

The deceased simply identified as Tasiu and Abdulahi were crushed by the collapsed beams of the structure while they were mixing concretes for parapet. They were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building and were only extricated when rescue workers arrived the scene.

Sources said the collapse might have been caused by the vibration of the machine used in mixing the concrete. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), another artisan, Yakub, sustained some injuries and was rushed to a private hospital.

The agency said the scene has been condoned off, adding that appropriate investigation would be conducted. Officers of the Lagos State police command attached to Maroko police station cordoned off the area.

While emergency workers were still battling with the situation, there was a distress call about a fire outbreak at Bedmate in Lekki and a fallen petrol tanker around Badagry, which was spilling its content on the road.
