POLICE QUIZ BENUE STATE COMMISSIONER OVER MURDER OF UNIVERSITY LECTURER

The Police in Benue State have questioned the State Commissioner of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Sekav Iortyom, over the murder of a lecturer at the University of Mkar, Gboko.

Unknown gunmen had on August 11, this year killed Wilfred Tersoo Tondo at his official residence within the University of Mkar in Gboko local government area of the state.

It was gathered that the late Tondo, a chairmanship aspirant on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) was shot around 4am while observing a Christian morning prayer with members of his family, thereby, fuelling suspicion that his death was politically motivated.

The interrogation of the commissioner, it was learnt may not be unconnected with allegation that he was not in good terms with the deceased, who was said to have been a preferred candidate of power brokers in the Buruku area, where both hailed from against the commissioner’s favourite candidate.

State commissioner of police, Bashir Makama however said on telephone that the commissioner was only invited to the station.

Makama did not state the reason for the invitation but insisted that the commissioner was not arrested or detained to the best of his knowledge as being speculated at the time of this report.
