MAINTAIN ETHICAL STANDARDS,LASG TELLS GUILD OF PROFESSIONAL BLOGGERS



Online media practitioners and bloggers have been asked to adhere to strict best practice and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

This assertion was made yesterday by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde during a courtesy visit to his office by The Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria led by its Ag. President, Mr. Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) in Alausa.

Mr. Ayorinde asked members of the union and general online practitioners to use their medium to propagate those ideals that will unite Nigerians and safeguard the integrity of the country.

According to him, it has come to a point where Online Journalism cannot be ignored, your roles as information managers is not in doubt but at the same time ,you’ve got to up your games and show Nigerians that you ll not only project that which is good but also make sure you adhere to existing laws that guarantees the fundamental rights of all Nigerians.

It is high time for online practitioners to become agents of change and provide the much needed alternatives in information management  

He commended the members of the Union for deeming it fit to bring themselves together as a union, pledging that the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s led administration will partner with the association towards achieving its set down goals and objectives.

In his remark, the Acting President of the guild, Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) said the association was in Alausa to intimate the Lagos State government of its activities and seek areas of cooperation and partnership.

The Association according to him was formed to bring together bloggers in the country under one roof, to exchange ideas, set standards for practice of the profession as well as form a voice on issues of national interest .

According to him, the Union has set up an ethics committee to handle all issues bordering ethical behaviour by its members and call on the general public to avail themselves those opportunities on any given issue when aggrieved.

The Union commended the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s government for its people oriented programmes since assumption of office , pledging to support it in any way it could .
Highlight of the visit was an interactive session with the Commissioner on several key issues bordering on governance in the State.
