FRSC TO DEPLOY 11,000 OFFICERS,795 VEHICLES ETC FOR EASTER SEASON

As the final days of 2016 Lenten season approaches, and Nigerians are once again on the road to visit their homes and loved ones in the spirit of Easter celebration when the death and resurrection of Christ is marked, the Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 11,000  Officers, Marshals, and Special Marshals to address the misuse of road by road users which results in high level of Road Traffic Crashes during most festive seasons. 

The Head Media Relations and Strategy of the FRSC,Mr Bisi Kazeem, stated that it was based on the observations of the Corps that the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive, Boboye Oyeyemi, approved also the deployment of 795 vehicles, 283 bikes, and 76 ambulances across different parts of the Country
In the words of Commander Kazeem, it is in a bid to arrive destinations early that most transporters and private vehicle owners drive recklessly, and overtake wrongfully, thereby undermining their safe arrival. 

He also added that it is in a bid to make more money that most transporters resort to overloading, and the resultant effect is Crashes which in turn leads to loss of lives and properties.

The spokesman of the Corps stressed that the Corps will be out to check all the accident induced factors that is not limited to wrongful overtaking, overloading, reckless driving, dangerous driving, etc for this 2016 Easter to commence from 24th – 30th of March.

According to Commander Kazeem, “the Corps Marshal’s vision is to increase Traffic Management of the Corps to ensure smooth travels before, during, and after the festive season to minimise the occurrence of Road Traffic Crashes on national highways through public enlightenment, removal of rickety and broken down vehicles, and a full-scale enforcement on Fake and expired drivers licence, number plate violation, speed limit violation, overloading violation, lane indiscipline, and wrongful overtaking”.

Commander Kazeem assured that with the measures on ground, and with the cooperation of motorists with all staff of the Corps deployed for the operations, Road Crashes will be reduced minimally, if not eradicated.
