Police Arrest Woman For Drowning Step Daughter In Soakaway

The police in Lagos State have arrested a woman for allegedly kidnapping two children, belonging to her husband’s senior wife and killing one of them.

The suspect, identified as Aminat Akanni, reportedly confessed to the police that she drowned one of the kidnapped children inside a soakaway

Seven-year-old Lateef Mubo and four-year-old Nosifat Mubo had reportedly left their father’s home at 305, Church Street, Adeniji Adele to buy biscuit, when they disappeared.

The corpse of the younger child was later recovered by policemen from Orile Divisional Police Station, after the elder brother had been recovered from Aminat, said to be the second wife of the missing children’s father.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the death of the four-year-old girl, adding that the suspect had been arrested.

The Lagos police spokesperson said “ On 3/10/2014 at about 2000hours, one Moshood Mubo ‘male’ of 305, Church Street, Lagos Island, reported at Adeniji Adele police station that two of his children were missing since 1800hrs of same date when they went to buy biscuit on the street.’’

He continued: “They are Lateef Mubo ‘male’ aged seven years and Nosifat Mubo ‘female’ aged four years. On 9/10/2014, at about 1030hrs, one Aminat Akanni ‘female’ of 20, Masallashi Street, Alakara Bus Stop, Orile, Lagos, was arrested with one of the missing children, Lateef Mubo ‘male’ aged seven years, at CMS Bus Stop.”

Nwosu also added that “the said Aminat Akanni ‘female’ is the second wife of the complainant.

Investigations revealed that the corpse of the other child, Nosifat Mubo, ‘female’ aged four years, was recovered at Orile Division in a sudden and unnatural death case.

‘‘Suspect confessed to have drowned the child and dropped the corpse at Orile.’’

The Lagos police image maker also added that, as part of efforts to get to the root of the incident, the state police commissioner, Kayode Aderanti, had directed the case to be transferred to Orile divisional police station for synchronisation and further action
