Former Ogun State Governor,Gbenga Daniel has denied the allegations that he operated a killers squad while in office, especially the killing of former gubernatorial candidate in the State, Dipo Dina.

Saying that he has resolved to partner the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Ogun State “to change the change” in the next general poll.
The incumbent governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is on the
platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), which slogan is “Change.”
Daniel said this at a news conference, which took place in his Lagos
home, declaring that his resolve to rally his party to support Jonathan in 2015
was based on his conviction that the president remained a better option in the
current circumstances, notwithstanding the security challenges facing the
country.
The former governor, who noted the turn-around by the current
administration made in the once troubled Niger-Delta region rocked by militancy,
and the rebasing of the country’s economy brought about by oil exploration
activities restored to normalcy, pointed out that President Jonathan remained
the best option for now to rule the country.
Daniel, who was the South-West coordinator of the Jonathan-Sambo
presidential campaign in 2011, while reeling out the achievements of Jonathan,
maintained that it would be wrong for anybody to assess him on the situation in
power sector and insecurity occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency.
According to him, every of his predecessors had failed to put the power
sector in place, whereas Jonathan had done better in that regard, saying that
the Boko Haram was not about insecurity, but pure terrorism and insurgency,
which he viewed as a new concept in the country.
Speaking further, the former governor expressed the determination of his
Labour Party to partner the PDP to chase out Governor Amosun of APC from
Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, come 2015.
He accused the current
administration for not doing much in the area of education and health.
According to him,Governor
Amosun has not constructed any single new road in the whole of Ogun State.All
he is doing is rehabilitating old roads.
Asked to score his
successor, the ex governor said,Amosun has performed woefully on all indexes.
He also debunked the rumour
that Amosun brought him into politics..Gbenga Daniel said,Amosun couldn’t have introduced
him to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who he knew years back even before Amosun
decided to go into politics.
He accused a section of the
Nigerian press of not being fair to him even when he did all he could to
contribute to the uplift of the fourth estate of the realm through the establishment
of a Newspaper outfit, THE COMPASS.
He said ,his attempt to get
serious minded top class Ogun Indigenes to contest the 2015 gubernatorial
election in the state has met a brick wall since none of them were interested
in the post.
Finally, Gbenga Daniel said
he did not have any regret on the skirmishes that characterized the last part
of his administration especially the problem with members of the State Houses
of Assembly which according to him was based on principle.
