Abia Govt Attempt To Cover Killing Of Aide By Governor's Son

There are strong indication that an attempt is been made by Abia State government to bury the story of the gruesome murder of an aide to the son of the State Governor , T A Orji.
Mr John Ndubuka was allegedly shot by an orderly attached to the governor’s son Chinedu Orji aka IKUKU under the order of the Governor’s son.
When the news breaks yesterday, the government quickly issued a statement to debunk the story.

Statement sent to CKN Nigeria by Nnaji Obed Asiegbu SA e government and Strategy to Gov T A Orji .

The death of a relative of Abia State Governor, Mr. John Ndubuka, is said to be under investigation by the State Command of the Nigeria Police.

Briefing journalists over the incident at the Government House, Umuahia, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr Eze Chikamnayo, said the victim, Mr.Ndubuka was hit by a bullet that killed him from an unknown source while leaving the venue at the end of a successful civic reception organized by Ikwuano/Umuahia people for the Governor on Saturday.

Dr Chikamnayo said the event occurred after the Governor,

Chief TA Orji and other dignitaries had left the arena.

According to him, the identity of the assailant is not yet known but stated that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and assured that the police will get to the root of the matter.

He further stated that the state government is on top of the security situation in the state and will not waiver from its responsibility of protecting lives and property of the citizenry.

Later today 17th February 2014.. The State government Published this in Thisday Newspaper ,alluding that it Must have been an assassination attempt on the life of the Governor’s son
Chinedu, son of Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, at the weekend escaped a gun attack that claimed the life of one of his aides, John Ndubuka.

However, the state government has attributed the attack, which happened in Umuahia as Chinedu was said to be on his way out of the venue of a grand civic reception held for his father by the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, to an assassination attempt on the governor's son.

It was learnt that as Chinedu was leaving the reception venue, there was a gunshot from a yet-to-be identified source which hit Ndubuka, who was said to be beside him, below his neck.

He later died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) after a team of medical personnel had tried in vain to save him.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna,  a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident, saying three suspects had been taken into custody while investigation had commenced to establish the source and motive behind the shooting.

He told THISDAY during a telephone interview yesterday that a full report on the incident would be made after investigations.
But the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Eze Chikamnayo, told journalists at a press conference yesterday that given the circumstances of the shooting, nothing could be ruled out, including assassination.
According to him, two shots were initially fired in the air by a policeman to disperse the surging crowd blocking the flow of vehicles but the third and fatal shot could not be traced.

“There is nothing to rule out at this time. It could have been an assassination attempt,” he said, adding that the victim was shot from the back while he was about entering the vehicle.

Chikamnayo stated that the governor’s son could have been the target of the gunshot considering the trajectory and the crowd of youths surging towards their idol, fondly known as Ikuku oma (Sweet breeze).

Chikamnayo regretted that in spite of successful efforts made by Orji to bring peace and security to the state, there were still elements bent on rubbishing all his achievements and such persons would stop at nothing to distract the government.
“What happened yesterday (Saturday) was an isolated incident but because life was involved, we have to investigate it,” he said.
The commissioner stated that the governor was still on top of the security situation in the state but warned that government would not hesitate to deal with anyone who attempts to disrupt the peace in the state.

Orji had already left the venue at the end of the civic reception beamed live by African Independent Television (AIT).
It was while the other dignitaries, including Chinedu, were trying to leave that the incident occurred.

PANDEMONIUM IN UMUAHIA AS GOV. T. ORJI's SON SHOOTS AIDE via IGBERE TV

Son to Governor T.A Orji of Abia State, Chinedu Orji aka “IKUKU” yesterday displayed another level of his usual unruly and criminal behavior at the Okpara square, Umauhia, venue of the official declaration of his father’s senatorial ambition ahead of the 2015 general elections.

“IKUKU”, the self acclaimed Governor of the state, who was angered by the utterance of his late PA over a minor issue, directed his police orderly to shoot the late aide. All efforts to save the victim did not yield any result as he lost blood profusely. The ugly development did not allow the event hold as planned as people took to their heels leaving the place deserted.

An eye witness at the venue who spoke under anonymity stated that he was shocked when the Governor’s son, Chinedu directed his orderly to shoot the late aide over a minor misunderstanding. He decried the humiliation Abians have been subjected to, by the actions of the Governor’s son, since his father took over the mantle of leadership. He called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the unlawful and unprofessional behaviour of the Governor’s son and his orderly respectively
