THE crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of the Action Congress of
Nigeria (ACN) took a dangerous dimension at the weekend when a member of the
party representing Ekiti Central constituency I, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele, was
allegedly attacked by rival members of the party at Igede-Ekiti.
Bamidele, who narrated his ordeal to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Monday, said he was in Igede community, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, to discuss an accommodation for his ‘situation office’ when the incident occurred.
Bamidele said: “I was in Igede-Ekiti to complete negotiation of an office accommodation for my situation office in Ado Ekiti,” saying, “as we were about leaving, we just heard the sound of a stone on the Toyota Prado vehicle in my convoy because I was conveyed to the town in that vehicle, but unknown to them, I had already entered the Toyota Land Cruiser my driver brought later.”
He said: “They attacked the Prado Jeep, smashed the windscreens because they thought I was inside. They even shot at the Land Cruiser when they realized that I was not in the Prado, but I escaped by whiskers.”
Bamidele, who claimed that he was attacked by ACN thugs because of his rising profile that daunted some members of the party, explained that some of his supporters were injured in the attack.
He accused the chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun council, Major Tajudeen Awe (retd), of sponsoring the attack, and alleged that a driver of the council chairman drove the vehicle that conveyed his attackers o the day.
Bamidele charged security agencies in the state to curb incessant attacks on him and his supporters, saying no amount of threat would dissuade him from forging ahead in pursuing his political aspiration in 2014.
Reacting, ACN chairman in the state, Chief Awe denied the allegation, saying he was outside Ekiti State with his driver when the incident occurred, saying “why should I do something like that against a member of my party and a member of the House of Representatives? So, I don’t have any axe to grind with Bamidele to warrant me sponsoring attacks on him.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, confirmed the incident but said no arrest had been made so far.

..hmm, it is now of grave concern what our party, ACN, is being turned into in Ekiti. An elected NANS member was attacked, arrests were made, and the state government is putting pressure on the police boss to release the culprits. Gov. Fayemi has to declare his interest in this matter. Under the paranoid, intolerant, and dictatorship administration of Fayemi, our dear party is fast losing its core values and moral fibers at the state level. Barely two weeks ago, Fayemi’s political thugs, under the supervision of Jide Awe, attacked and shot dead a perceived defecting ACN member in Erijiyan-Ekiti while leaving the deceased’s mother and several others with life threatening bullet wounds; and this, which has generated a lot of state as well as national concerns and attention, was just one of many recent attacks perpetrated by the same thugs on different quarters throughout the state. As if all these were not enough, now another attack on MOB, this time master minded by another Fayemi’s terror machine, Major Tajudeen Awe (rtd), the Irepodun/Ifelodun LG Caretaker Committee Chairman. Last week, Fayemi declared a 7-day of mourning of his deceased deputy Governor. It is quite appalling to see that he (Fayemi) still had time to plan an attack on another elected official of his own party and state while currently mourning the death of another one. What an ignominy! This is a big shame!! Fayemi recently said in an interview that he has Rapid Response Team, which helps him respond to negative comments about him and his administration (a statement that is unbecoming of an ELECTED governor who should be attentive and positively responsive to the yearnings of his people). Little did we know then that he also has Rapid Respond Killer/Attack Team throughout the state, which helps him unleash terror and intimidation on perceived opponents. What is more shocking is how Fayemi keeps silent and refuses to comment or react to all of the menace and terrors rained by his thugs on the good citizens of Ekiti. He pretends to be quiet and soft spoken. Fascists are like that. They don’t talk but they are the worst. I call on Mr. Fayemi to remember the fact that he did not choose himself. We the electorates chose him; and the freedom of choice that existed then still exists now. The harassments, killings, and intimidations been currently rained by him and his cronies will not guarantee his re-election. It is the will of God that will determine and ultimately produce the next Governor of Ekiti! Ekiti kete o, Ire l’oni o. Inja musu sun kaminu awobe o. Abarin agbehin o!
